Straight along the A6068 and a shorter run for us than Harrogate, despite being over the border. Barnoldswick sits high and open, and its uPVC has had the weather to prove it.

Weavers' Terraces, and the Weather

Barnoldswick was built by the cotton trade and then kept going by engineering, and both left their mark: long runs of stone weavers' terraces near the centre, works housing around them, and post-war and modern estates spreading out towards Salterforth Road and Coates.

The terraces have the same shape of problem as Keighley's, a door and a window making up the whole frontage, but with more weather on them. This is the Pennine edge, the prevailing wind comes off open ground, and west-facing frames here chalk noticeably faster than the same frames would in a sheltered valley.

The later estates give us the more standard job: fifteen to twenty five year old white frames, sound in every respect, on a house that has been decorated and cared for around them.

There is also a good amount of stone-fronted property where the frames were replaced piecemeal rather than all at once, so a single elevation can carry two or three different whites and a woodgrain. Bringing those back to one colour is often the whole job, and it costs less than replacing any one of them.

White frames on a stone gable, sprayed anthracite. On an exposed elevation the preparation matters more than the colour, because a chalked frame has to be taken back properly before anything will hold on it.

How It Runs

Over the Border Changes Nothing

Being in Lancashire changes nothing about the price or the process. The A6068 out of Cross Hills runs straight there and it is a shorter journey than several of the Yorkshire towns we cover.

Everything is sprayed in place: frames, sills, doors, porches and garage doors. Nothing is removed and nothing is sent away.

Two to three days for a house. On an exposed elevation we allow more preparation time, because a chalked frame needs taking back properly before anything goes on it.

A chalked frame is not simply dirty. The surface has broken down and has to be taken back and stabilised before anything goes on it, or the new colour fails early. On the exposed elevations here we allow for that in the quote rather than discovering it on the day.

“Great service from start to finish, final end product was everything we could have hoped for and more. Thank you”

Colours & Finishes

Colours That Cope With Exposure

Darker colours hold their look longer on an exposed elevation than a bright white ever did, which is part of why anthracite has taken over. It is not only fashion. The coating we use is made for exterior uPVC, it is UV stable, and it carries a 10 year warranty on the finish, which matters more here than in a sheltered street. We match to RAL and British Standard. People here ask more often than anywhere whether a sprayed frame lasts, which is a fair question on this side of the hill. The system is an exterior uPVC coating, not a household paint, and the finish carries a 10 year warranty.

Photographs of each elevation, and tell us which side gets the weather. Quotes are free and we can be there quickly if a look is easier. The full process is on our upvc spraying page.
