Where the Wrong White Really Shows
Ilkley is largely Victorian, built in stone when the town was a spa, with big villas below the Moor, solid terraces round the centre, and the Ben Rhydding end carrying its own mix of period and later family housing.
Almost none of it has its original windows. What went in instead was white uPVC, usually in the eighties and nineties, and usually chosen because it was the standard product rather than because anybody looked at the building. On honey-coloured stone under a lot of reflected light, white is the one colour that never settles.
The frames themselves are often perfectly serviceable. Modern glazing units, sound seals, working mechanisms. What has dated is a colour decision made forty years ago by somebody selling windows.
How It Runs
The Building Is Not Altered
Nothing comes out. Frames, sills, doors and the glazing all stay exactly where they are, masked and sprayed in place. Replacing windows on a period frontage can mean a conversation with the council about what is acceptable. Changing the colour of the frames you already have is a different proposition, though it is always worth a call to them if your property is listed.
Twenty five minutes is a real drive, so Ilkley jobs are quoted properly and scheduled as a block rather than dipped in and out of.

Period openings mean more edges. Stone mullions, deep sills and glazing bars all have to be cut in by hand, and that careful masking is what stops a sprayed frame looking like a painted one.

Colours & Finishes
Heritage Colours on Victorian Stone
Anthracite is the default request and on some Ilkley houses it is too hard, reading as new-build against soft weathered stone. A heritage green, a warm off-black or a deep grey with a brown note in it usually sits better. We match to RAL and British Standard ranges and will happily talk you out of a shade that will fight the stone, which is a conversation we have here more than anywhere. The finish is an exterior uPVC coating rather than a decorator's paint, UV stable and warranted for 10 years, so a period frontage does not need doing again in three summers.
